GEN. H. NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF
Awarded by
President George Bush
July 3, 1991
Captain of victory in the Gulf, General Norman Schwarzkopf has served his country in war and peace with selfless devotion and dedication throughout a long and distinguished career in the United States Army. As Commander-in- Chief, Central Command, he responded to the unprovoked and unlawful aggression of Iraq against Kuwait with energy and imagination. He led the largest coalition since World War II, integrating the Armed Forces of disparate countries, cultures, and training into a single military force and achieving swift success in Operation Desert Storm. He has sought to build bridges of understanding between the United States and the peoples of the Middle East. The United States honors this soldier, who takes his place in history's roll of great commanders.
